The Weekend Edit: Paris

The laidback local way to explore Montmartre

Paris, one of Europe’s most gorgeous and walkable cities, offers five TRIBE hotels for you to choose from, each in its own charming Parisian neighbourhood. One of our favourites is TRIBE Batignolles near Montmartre, an area that famously homed some of the greatest artists of the 20th century and produced the can-can. The hotel is the ideal spot to enjoy the quietly trendy Batignolles neighbourhood, soak up Montmartre’s artistic heritage, and discover some standout spots that most tourists miss.

Batignolles Market, near TRIBE Paris Batignolles

Start your weekend slowly with a walk to the Marché Biologique des Batignolles, an all-organic food market with a distinctly Parisian community vibe held every Saturday. Just a few minutes away, the Marché Couvert des Batignolles offers a mix of international food stalls and boutique vendors selling jewellery, accessories, and artisan gifts, and is open every day except Monday.

After lunch, stroll towards Montmartre and begin your cultural tour at the Musée de Montmartre, the former home of artists Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo, where you’ll find peaceful gardens, a brilliant permanent collection and a fascinating perspective on the area’s bohemian legacy.

From there, head to the small but well-curated Galerie Montmartre, which showcases contemporary artists, connecting Montmartre’s past to the creative present.

When hunger strikes, Montmartre has no shortage of restaurants, but few match the charm of Le Moulin de la Galette. Housed in a historic windmill, this spot serves traditional French fare like duck confit, coq au vin, and classic desserts in a romantic, candle-lit setting. For something a bit more tucked-away, try Le Très Particulier, a hidden cocktail lounge and restaurant with a garden terrace. It’s stylish, intimate, and ideal for a long, cosy dinner.

Just down the hill, right next to the world-famous Moulin Rouge cabaret, you’ll find La Machine du Moulin Rouge, one of the most versatile clubs in Paris, where each floor is dedicated to a different vibe, from electro to hip-hop. For something more arty and eclectic, head down the road to Le Divan du Monde or the drag cabaret night next door, Madame Arthur.

After coffee and croissants the next morning, have a Sunday stroll around the newly landscaped Parc Clichy-Batignolles – Martin Luther King. If you prefer somewhere more intimate, the Promenade Pereire, a sculpture-filled rose garden set in a disused railway stretching from the 17th arrondissement toward the west. It’s a great place to sit with a coffee and soak in the quiet Parisian rhythm before heading home.
